Big companies love to lure you in with fancy warranties, but when something goes wrong? You’re stuck in a maze of customer service calls, fine print, and “sorry, that’s not covered” responses. I’ve always believed that any business proud of its service and products should stand by them for life. Building trust, keeping customers happy, and growing a business through genuine care is worth far more than the occasional faulty part.
That’s why at Tech Guy Tavistock, I offer a lifetime guarantee on everything I sell. Whether it’s a custom-built PC, a refurbished laptop, a repaired device, or any tech product you buy from me, you can rest easy knowing I’ve got your back.
What’s Covered Under the Lifetime Guarantee?
- Manufacturing defects – If something wasn’t right from the start, I’ll make it right.
- Component failures under normal use – If a part gives up too soon, I’ll sort it.
- Free Basic Diagnosis & Support – Basic troubleshooting and quick support are free for life.
- Labour is Free for Covered Claims – For any repair or replacement that falls under the “What’s Covered” section, you only pay for new parts (if needed). My time for these services is not marked up.
What’s Not Covered (and may be chargeable)?
- Physical damage – If you drop it, smash it, or spill your coffee on it, that’s on you.
- Liquid damage – Tech and liquids don’t mix!
- Overclocking, modifications & third-party repairs – If you (or someone else) have tinkered with it and things go wrong, it is not covered.
- Software issues – Viruses, corrupted files, dodgy downloads, and operating system key retrieval (like Windows keys) are not hardware problems. Once an OS key is activated, it is tied to the hardware/user account, and retrieval or replacement is the customer’s responsibility.
- Normal wear & tear – Cosmetic scuffs and worn-out keyboards happen over time.
💷 Services Beyond Basic Means (Chargeable Work)
The Lifetime Guarantee primarily covers my time against product defects (no labour charge) and offers free basic support.
For complex troubleshooting, data recovery, OS key retrieval, repairs to self-inflicted damage (including third-party repair attempts), or any other service beyond a simple diagnosis or repair of a genuine product fault, I reserve the right to charge my standard hourly rate of £40.
Any chargeable work will be quoted and agreed upon with you before work begins.
⏱️ Service Timeframes and Agreements
- Reasonable Timeframe: All work performed under this guarantee is subject to my availability, the availability of parts, and current workload. I am committed to completing covered services as quickly as possible, but “reasonable time” is not guaranteed to be immediate.
- Workload Consideration: To ensure the stability of the business and to serve all customers fairly, the completion of services under this guarantee (including part ordering and fitting) may take up to 60 days from the date a claim is confirmed as covered, plus any associated delivery times. This accounts for pre-arranged bookings, business priority, work hours, and retail service availability.
How to Make a Claim
- Drop me a message – Email techguytavistock@gmail.com or visit me in Tavistock with your issue.
- Let’s figure it out – I’ll troubleshoot with you and determine what needs doing and if it is covered under the guarantee or if it is chargeable work.
- Repair or Replace – If it’s covered, I’ll fix it or swap the faulty part.
- Postage Costs – If the item needs to be sent back, you cover the postage both ways. I’ll cover the return costs with my own labour time used to repair, replace, or diagnose your product.
A Few Things to Note
- This guarantee applies to all tech products I sell, not just PCs.
- If a part fails outside the manufacturer’s warranty, I’ll only charge you for the replacement part – never for the labour (as long as the failure is covered).
- The guarantee is for the original buyer – but if you pass the item on, I’ll still offer support and repairs at a fair price.
At the end of the day, I’m not here to make a quick sale—I want to build lasting relationships with customers who know they can rely on me for life.
Tech Guy Tavistock – Service You Can Trust, For Life.
Evaluation, Holding & Abandoned Items Policy
By leaving cards, collections or other items with Tech Guy Tavistock (“we”, “us”, “our”) for evaluation, trade-in, consignment or sale, you (“you”, “the Customer”) agree to the terms below.
1. Intake & Evaluation
1.1 When you leave items with us, we collect your name and contact details (phone, email, or social media handle) so we can discuss your collection and provide a valuation or trade-in offer. These details, along with a record of our communication, form the electronic intake record for your items.
1.2 The evaluation timeframe begins on the date we first confirm receipt of your items, or when we notify you that your collection is queued for review—whichever comes first.
1.3 We will aim to evaluate and contact you with a trade-in or consignment offer within 14 days. Evaluation is free of charge for this initial period.
1.4 If you do not reply or collect your items within this timeframe, section 2 (“Holding Fee”) applies.
2. Holding Fee for Items Left Beyond Evaluation Period
2.1 Items not collected or confirmed for sale/trade within 14 days of initial contact are subject to a holding fee of 5% of the estimated trade-in value per week (or part-week).
2.2 Notification of holding fees and collection deadlines will be sent to the contact information you provided; these messages (email, SMS, or social media) are considered official notice.
2.3 If no response or payment is received within the notified period, continued holding will incur further weekly fees until the collection is either reclaimed, sold, or deemed abandoned under section 3.
3. Collection & Ownership Reversion
3.1 If we have made reasonable attempts to contact you for 60 days after the end of the evaluation period and you have not responded, the items may be considered abandoned property.
3.2 Ownership of the items will then transfer to Tech Guy Tavistock, and we may sell, dispose of, or otherwise handle the items at our discretion.
